In the past eleven years, we’ve expanded our facilities, our boat fleet and our programs. This was accomplished with the help and generosity of individuals in our community, as well as the City of Fort Pierce and hard-working volunteers.
We started with a boathouse at Jaycee Park, then added to our facilities by renovating an adjacent pavilion, donated by the City of Fort Pierce, giving us capacity to store larger boats and house equipment.
Our fleet started with twelve training boats. Then six Optimist sailboats were added, enabling our students to race in competitive sailing events. Six 420 sailboats were purchased for use of the older students.
We originally offered eight one-week summer classes then expanded by adding a year-round program geared to teaching the basics of sailboat racing to graduate students of the summer program. The next step came several years ago when St. Andrew’s Academy added sailing to its PE curriculum. We recently became involved with the Courageous Kids Program in teaching children to sail.
We don’t plan to stop here.
Future plans include expansion of high school sailing programs, addition of adult sailing classes and the addition of boats to the fleet. These and the ongoing need for equipment replacement, repair and upgrading will require extra funding. Your help is needed and will be much appreciated.
